FAQs On Coming To The Embassy

Please note that all consular customers are required to wear a facemask and adhere to social distancing requirements at the Embassy.  Anyone not wearing a facemask will not be permitted to enter the Embassy grounds.

Please Note: The American Citizens Services section asks that all passport-related applications be completed based on the guidance on the U.S. Embassy – Kuwait website ONLY.

Be advised that passport forms must be completed online, printed and brought with you to your appointment, as there are no public printing facilities near the Embassy at which to complete the forms.  If you do not bring the necessary completed form using the Passport Wizardwe reserve the right to ask you to reschedule your appointment.

All passport applicants and the parents of minor applicants are required to bring photocopies of all citizenship, identification, and court documents that will be submitted with the passport application.  This includes passports, birth certificates, and other photo identification.  At our discretion, those arriving without the required photocopies are subject to rescheduling or may be charged a photocopy fee.

Passport applications received and adjudicated at the American Embassy in Kuwait will be issued by domestic passport facilities in the United States.  Citizens will receive their new passports approximately two to three weeks after the application is approved.  Please plan accordingly.  Once the new passport is available, the applicant will be notified via email.  Please bring your old passport for cancellation; no appointment is necessary.

For further assistance, please email American Citizen Services at KuwaitACS@state.gov.  For emergencies, please call (+965) 2259-1001.

U.S. citizens may pick up their passports at window two near the front gate during the following days and hours: Sunday to Wednesday, 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. They must possess valid identification and should present the email notification or the numbered ticket to indicate they are coming for passport pickup.

If we require additional information to complete your case, you must return to the Embassy with the pink sheet that you were given at the time of your interview. Unless otherwise instructed by consular staff, you may proceed to window two at the front gate between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM on Sunday through Wednesday.

If you are renewing your adult passport, you may pay the necessary fees online and drop off the required documents at the front gate of the U.S. Embassy between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on Sunday through Wednesday. For more information, see “Renew an adult passport.”

Unfortunately due to the high demand for services, we are not able to accommodate applicants who fail to arrive by their scheduled appointment time.  Any applicant who appears more than 15 minutes after his/her scheduled interview time will need to re-schedule the appointment and will not be allowed to enter the Embassy.

All appointment holders should have a confirmation sheet showing their scheduled appointment time, in addition to a passport AND second form of identification, as well as the appropriate fees.  The Embassy accepts U.S. dollars, Kuwaiti dinar, and major credit cards.  It does not accept K-NET.  For additional requirements regarding paperwork, please see the relevant section on our website.
