The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a great tool available for U.S. citizens traveling or living abroad. The STEP service is free of charge, and allows you, the user, to enter information about your trip or residence in a foreign country. In doing so, STEP helps us as an Embassy get routine information out to U.S. citizens living in Kuwait.
Why does STEP help?
Enrolling in STEP helps the Embassy provide important services for U.S. citizens. Some of these services include:
- Locating individuals in the event of family or personal emergencies;
- Relaying important travel and safety information about the region;
- Arranging evacuation transportation in the event of a natural disaster or civil unrest;
- Issuing replacement passports when originals are lost or stolen.
What about privacy?
In accordance with the Privacy Act passed by the U.S. Congress in 1974, the Embassy cannot release any information about you without your written consent.
The information you provide is secure, and is accessed only by cleared personnel in Embassies, Consulates, and the Department of State, and releasable only under the provisions of the Privacy Act mentioned above.
We encourage you to enroll in STEP for yourself and your family, and pass the word about this site to other American citizens in Kuwait who may not be aware of the system, or the ease of enrolling in it.
Please note–If you are already enrolled in STEP, have departed Kuwait, and no longer wish to receive routine and security messages from the U.S. Embassy, please enter a specific departure date from Kuwait in your STEP profile. Also, if you wish to change your email address, you must amend the address in STEP. Due to privacy restrictions, we are unable to do that for you.
If you have specific questions about your enrollment in STEP, please contact us KuwaitACS@state.gov.
