A career senior Foreign Service Officer, Larry L. Memmott began service as Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy Kuwait on September 10, 2018. Mr. Memmott last served as Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Prior to that he was Senior Advisor on Investment Affairs in the Economic Bureau of the Department of State. Previously, he was Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to the Plurinational State of Bolivia from 2012 to 2014 and served as Deputy Chief of Mission in the Kyrgyz Republic from 2009 to 2012. He began his diplomatic career in 1987, and has since served in U.S. Embassies in Norway, Chile, Uzbekistan, Ecuador, and the Philippines, and in the Department of State in Washington, D.C. He speaks Spanish and Russian and has won several State Department awards for his contribution to U.S. diplomacy and his leadership.
A native of the state of Utah, Larry earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Utah. He undertook post-graduate studies in economics at the University of Chicago. He has three grown children who reside in Maryland. His wife and youngest daughter reside with him in Kuwait.
