Due to COVID-19, the State Department’s passport processing centers have been closed since April. As such, the processing and shipping of new, full-validity passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBAs) have been suspended worldwide until further notice. The Embassy understands the challenges this has posed for individuals who need a new, full-validity U.S. passport to renew their Kuwaiti residency. As a reminder, the Government of Kuwait has automatically extended all tourist visas and residencies until August 31, 2020.
The Consular Section is currently able to issue limited-validity, emergency passports only for U.S. citizens with expired U.S. passports who wish to return to the United States or want a valid travel document, and for newborn U.S. citizens without passports. Kuwaiti residency cannot be transferred to limited passports. Please visit our website to schedule an appointment.
We have started accepting limited appointments for new, full-validity passports. However, please be aware that these passport applications will remain pending until passport production resumes. We do not know when these services will resume at this time; please do not schedule an appointment unless you need to apply for a first-time passport or renew an existing passport. We will send a message to Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) registrants and update the Embassy website once passport production resumes.
Additionally, limited appointments are available for urgent notarial services only. Please visit our website to schedule an appointment.
