May 26, 2021: Message to U.S. Citizens – Update on Third Round of Economic Impact Payments

Update on Third Round of Economic Impact Checks

The U.S. Embassy has just begun receiving batches of the third round of the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Economic Impact Payments (https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/third-economic-impact-payment). If you believe you are entitled to an economic payment and have not received a direct deposit and listed a local Kuwaiti address as your mailing address on your most recent tax return, then the check may have been mailed to the Embassy.

The U.S. Embassy has already contacted, or attempted to contact, all those whose third round Economic Impact Payment check has arrived at the Embassy. If you have not been contacted, this likely means the Embassy did not receive your check. If we receive any more third round Economic Impact Payment checks, we will send a message to applicable U.S. citizens as we receive them.

If you did not receive any Economic Impact Payments or received less than the full amounts, you may qualify for Recovery Rebate Credit and must file a 2020 tax return to claim the credit even if you do not normally file.

The U.S. Embassy does not have information regarding methods of local check deposit or local check cashing of the stimulus check. Please direct these questions to your bank or financial institution. In some cases, friends or family in the United States may be able to deposit your check for you.

Check Pickup Procedure

Checks may be picked up Sunday – Wednesday between the hours of 1:00pm – 2:30pm. Please bring some form of identification as well as a printout of the email sent to you in order to pick up your check. If you are unable to pick up your check, you may write a letter authorizing someone else to pick up the check on your behalf (do not email the Embassy with this authorization, the person picking up must bring the letter or pick-up email with them).

If you receive a pick-up email but have left Kuwait, please reply to the pick-up email with a forwarding address that we can forward your check to you. Please be advised that it can take 4-6 weeks or longer for you to receive the check once we send it, and there is no ability to track your check once it leaves the Embassy.

Facemasks Required at the U.S. Embassy

If you have been contacted to pick up a check and intend to come to the Embassy, please note that all consular customers are required to wear a facemask and adhere to social distancing requirements at the Embassy. Anyone not wearing a facemask will not be permitted to enter Embassy grounds.

If the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not have your current direct deposit information on file, checks may be mailed.  Please visit this IRS webpage and use the “Get My Payment” function to check the status of your payment. If and when checks are received at the Embassy, we will send notification to the email address on file from the first and second rounds of checks.

Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments website for updated information regarding these payments and other tax information.
