The U.S. Embassy in Kuwait is aware of Ministerial Decision 288 dated March 26, 2020 that gives the option to foreign nationals, including U.S. citizens, who do not have a residence permit or whose residency has expired, to depart Kuwait between April 1 and April 30, 2020 without paying a fine. The Embassy is aware of the concern this decision has caused in the U.S. citizen community, particularly for those whose visas or residency permits have expired or will soon expire. We are engaging with the Kuwaiti government on this decision and will send further messages as soon as we have greater clarification.
- Citizens should continue to check the Embassy website and follow our social media platforms for announcements about possible future flights to the United States.
- The Embassy updates the information on its COVID-19 web-page (https://kw.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/) daily so please check it for the latest information on COVID-19 in Kuwait.
- If you have not done so already, enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and messages from the Embassy.
