Second Round of Economic Impact Payments
The U.S. Embassy has already contacted, or attempted to contact, all those whose second round Economic Impact Payment check arrived at the Embassy. If you have not been contacted, this likely means the Embassy did not receive your check. Though not anticipated, if we receive any more second round Economic Impact Payment checks, we will send a message to applicable U.S. citizens and post on our website.
If you did not receive any Economic Impact Payments or received less than the full amounts, you may qualify for Recovery Rebate Credit and must file a 2020 tax return to claim the credit even if you do not normally file. See this IRS website for more information on how to claim your Recovery Rebate Credit.
The U.S. Embassy does not have information regarding methods of local check deposit or local check cashing of the stimulus check. Please direct these questions to your bank or financial institution. In some cases, friends or family in the United States may be able to deposit your check for you.
Facemasks Required at the U.S. Embassy
If you have been contacted to pick up a check and intend to come to the Embassy, please note that all consular customers are required to wear a facemask and adhere to social distancing requirements at the Embassy. Anyone not wearing a facemask will not be permitted to enter the Embassy grounds.
Economic Impact Payments from the American Rescue Plan
U.S. citizens living in Kuwait may also qualify for new Economic Impact Payments from the American Rescue Plan. The Embassy does not yet have information regarding if and when these checks will arrive. We will send a message when more information is available.
If you have chosen direct deposit, payment will be automatically deposited into the same banking account used for your previous tax returns. For more information on Direct Deposit see our December 21st message to U.S. citizens.
If the IRS does not have your current direct deposit information on file, checks may be mailed. Please visit this IRS webpage and use the “Get My Payment” function to check the status of your payment. If and when checks are received at the Embassy, we will send notification to the email address on file from the first and second rounds of checks.
Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments website for updated information regarding these payments and other tax information.
