Second Round of Economic Impact Payments
The U.S. Embassy just received a batch of the second round of the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Economic Impact Payments. Today’s message supersedes our January 06 and March 15 messages regarding Economic Impact Payments.
If you believe you are entitled to an economic payment AND have not received a direct deposit AND you listed a local Kuwaiti address as your mailing address on your most recent tax return, the check may have been mailed to the Embassy.
If you completed the survey from our January 6, 2021 message to U.S. citizens regarding the second round of payments, we will use the contact information you provided to schedule a time for you to pick it up. Please allow for up to two weeks for Embassy staff to contact you. If you did not complete the survey from our January 6, 2021 message, contact us at KuwaitACS@state.gov to confirm if your check is at the Embassy.
If you did not receive any Economic Impact Payments or received less than the full amounts, you may qualify for Recovery Rebate Credit and must file a 2020 tax return to claim the credit even if you do not normally file. See this IRS website for more information on how to claim your Recovery Rebate Credit.
Economic Impact Payments from the American Rescue Plan
U.S. citizens living in Kuwait may also qualify for new Economic Impact Payments from the American Rescue Plan. The federal government strongly encourages federal benefit recipients to choose direct deposit. If you have chosen direct deposit, payment will be automatically deposited into the same banking account used for your previous tax returns. For more information on Direct Deposit see our December 21st message to U.S. citizens.
If the IRS does not have your current direct deposit information on file, payment checks may be mailed to the address on your most recent tax return. Please visit this IRS webpage and use the “Get My Payment” function to check the status of your payment. Please note this function only works for the third round of economic impact payments.
If you believe you are entitled to an economic payment AND have not received a direct deposit AND you listed a local Kuwaiti address as your mailing address on your most recent tax return, the check may be mailed to the Embassy. To date, we have not received any payments from the American Rescue Plan. We will update our website and send a message to U.S. citizens when more information is available.
Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments website for updated information regarding these payments and other tax information.
