April 6, 2020: Message for U.S. Citizens: Deadline to Express Interest in Possible Qatar Airways Flight to Washington, DC and/or Dallas, TX

April 6, 2020

The Embassy has been informed that Qatar Airways is considering a commercial flight for U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents departing Kuwait International Airport within the next two weeks to Washington, DC (Dulles International Airport) and/or Dallas, TX (DFW International Airport), with an overnight stop in Doha.

Thank you to those who have already expressed interest in this flight.  If you are interested in returning to the United States but have not already completed the online form at https://bit.ly/3aFBT2K, please do so by 5:00pm today, April 6.  After that time, we will close the form and send the information to Qatar Airways.

We do not yet know the cost of the flight(s), but we expect it will be significantly more expensive than the most recent flight on March 27 from Kuwait to the United States, which was approximately KD 300 per ticket.

If the flights are confirmed, announcements about the flight(s) and instructions on how to obtain a ticket from Qatar Airways will be sent to all Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) registrants, posted on the Embassy website, and amplified by the Embassy’s social media platforms.  Please do not call Qatar Airways directly yet.

Potential travelers should consult CDC guidance on travel, consider health conditions at their final destination, and remember that they will not be able to return to Kuwait until the airport re-opens and commercial service has been restored.  U.S. citizens who wish to depart Kuwait should also ensure that their travel documentation is in order, that there is no travel ban on their departure, and that they have funds to purchase tickets.

  • U.S. citizens should continue to check the Embassy website and follow our social media platforms for announcements about possible future flights to the United States.
  • The Embassy updates the information on its COVID-19 webpage daily so please check it for the latest information on COVID-19 in Kuwait.
  • If you have not done so already, enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive Alerts and messages from the Embassy.
